The Sydney 8 - nine months without a title, will SK Gaming return to the top at Intel® Extreme Masters in Australia?
SK Gaming, once the best team in the world, have not won a tournament since ESL One Cologne 2016. Can they break this streak at IEM Sydney?

The SK Gaming lineup is is definitely accomplished, having won two majors, MLG Columbus and ESL One Cologne 2016, as well as DreamHack Austin 2016 and the ESL Pro League Season 3 finals. The team also took several runner up slots for example at IEM Katowice 2016, ESL Pro League Season 4 finals or IEM Oakland.

However, SK Gaming has not won a tournament since ESL One Cologne last year. They reached semifinals or grand finals of tournaments but have not been able to add another trophy to their collection. The team did undergo one roster change in February this year, swapping felps and fnx with Immortals. The renewed roster took second place at DreamHack Las Vegas but had a rather disappointing performance at IEM World Championship Katowice. They finished last in their group taking a total of two map wins: vs. North and Heroic.

It will be very interesting to see how SK Gaming will perform at IEM Sydney. The player to watch will again be Coldzera who can play both as a rifler or an AWPer at the same level as the other star players, something almost no one else in the world can do. Will he and the rest of SK manage to lift the IEM trophy in Sydney? It would the organisation's first ever IEM trophy as well as the first IEM trophy for most of the players, as only Fallen has one in his portfolio having won IEM Season 5 American Championship with compLexity.

SK Gaming is currently competing at StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3 and are sitting with a 2-1 score with wins against TyLoo and Virtus.pro, and a loss against G2 Esports. They face Astralis in the next round - a matchup we will be watching closely as both teams will compete in Sydney!

See you in Sydney!
